In the midst of a wild work week, one of the highlights was slowing down for a minute and making lunch for Jeana Sohn. It was a Mexican riff on one of my favorite Mark Bittman recipes, for Sweet Potato with Brown Butter and Sage. I sauteed an onion and garlic in olive oil for approx five minutes. I added a shredded yam and let it get lightly golden before adding two chopped sage leaves. After cooking for another minute or two, I piled the mixture in a warmed tortilla and topped with a slab of queso fresco and chopped scallions. Served alongside some perfect tomatoes, avocado (it's always summer in LA!) and black beans. What was the best thing you cooked this week?

This looks fantastic. I love sweet potatoes. The best thing I made all week was red lentil soup; the recipe is here. It was delicious, and the leftovers were even better. I also made an apple-cinnamon cake, but it was kind of dense and dry. I'm not very good at baking. :)
awwwww, man. I really want this right now. Also, beautiful mottling work on that tortilla!!
Such a good idea! We got a bunch of small squash in our CSA and I bet they would be amazing in this 'recipe' too.
I look forward to attempting your mix, it looks so good. I just made a sort of 'fall taco' last night. Earlier in the day I made use of an overabundance of broccoli and blended the florets with jalapeƱo, lime, olive oil & salt and let that meld in the fridge. At night, I roasted beets, carrots and large radishes and made corn tortilla tacos with the "brocamole", cotija cheese and hot sauce. They were delicious.
I made some really great honey glazed carrots with a kick of harissa infused olive oil. Sweat and spicy.
Oh these look amazing. I would love to make them. I didn't cook all week and now am in the mood after seeing your blog post!
I also meant to say that I love that runner! Gorgeous on your table, with that plate of delicious food.
Yummers!!!
