Mornings in La Paz were spent strolling through town, sampling horchata and popping in and out of shops. In preparation for a day by the beach, I found my perfect sun hat. The bright blue ribbon reminds me of something I would have worn as a little girl.

We stocked up on local vanilla beans and cinnamon at a quaint organics store.

The cutest lollipops.

Beautiful produce at the Farmers' Market.

Driving through the desert...

Only to arrive at a crystal blue ocean.

When I say crystal, I mean CRYSTAL. It looked like a postcard.

Happiness in the sea of cortez. What's not to like?

We watched the sun set all around us.

And drove home through a silent desert.

The second half of our trip was spent in Todos Santos - when we first arrived, we went straight for lunch at a restaurant known for great fish. We started with margaritas and guacamole.

We shopped around town for locally made products. Soap...

Ceramics...

We went to the beach.

And spent some time staring at some crazy waves.

The evening ended with carne asada tacos.

Churros and a fried plantain.

And a dancing performance in the town square. I kind of couldn't believe what we stumbled into.

Bottom line: Baja is a special place and I feel lucky to have spent several days exploring the charming towns, silent deserts and beckoning seas.

a few years back my husband (then bf) and i took a road trip down through baja over new years. despite a scorpion bite that left my arm and lips numb (!), it remains one of my favorite trips of all time.

Oh man, seriously stunning photos- I especially love the one of the ocean, surrounded by stark desert. It looks like an alien landscape, and I love it.
You two are very cute. This area of the world looks like paradise. I love the photos of you and Alex in the water. How beautiful and inspiring this all is!
i doubt i ever going to taste horchata, so how does it taste like? :)

Everything looks so bright and beautiful! My partner and I have never been to Mexico but we're dying to go now cause of your posts and photos on Tulum and Baja. So much eye candy, I can look at these photos over and over again. Thank you!
That sea! One of the most vivid memories I have of my trips to baja is the color of the sea. I love that the beaches can be your own. Looks like such a great trip.

Those pics of you two swimming in the ocean-- so beautiful and full of joy.

Love the pictures. I makes me anxious to take a road trip down there, and soon! I have to agree with anon though, that soap is definitely not locally made.

Wow, these pictures are amazing. The colors are so vibrant. That chair/bench in the first picture pretty much captures the style of the La Paz for me!! Thanks for sharing such a special place with us. :)
I grew up in Cabo, so I know first hand how amazing Baja really is. Todos Santos is one of my most favorite places to visit in all of Baja, it's so warm and inviting. I just love it! Thanks for sharing your trip, it reminds me that I need to go back sometime soon!
So Amazing! I know naming secret spots can be tricky but would you please-PLEASE tell me where that beach is?! I need to map it and plan it from our house ;)
Maybe we should shift our next Big Sur to Baja Sur? Looks like a lovely adventure!
