Fig Madness

IMG_5823

For me, a big part of savoring summer is making the most of these last weeks of the produce - I'm on a quest to buy and eat as many heirloom tomatoes, peaches, peppers, squash blossoms, strawberries, melons and figs as possible. Last weekend I used what I had in the fridge and assembled something simple but very good: figs, stuffed with a slice of feta and a mint leaf and wrapped with prosciutto. With the few figs I had remaining, I made Bea's Fresh Fig Margaritas - so good! What have you been cooking with the summer bounty? I'm getting some great ideas from the New York Times' sandwich slideshow! Bacon, Lettuce and Plum Sandwiches? I want that.

We just got figs in our csa -- so good. They are one of my favorite things ever! I ate 2 last night topped with a spoonful of vanilla ice cream (left by your Meg). What an end to the night!

I love stuffed figs! If you have some figs to spare I recommend making fig mustard: http://paperdollparade.blogspot.com/2011/08/mustard-for-bread.html
It is pretty dreamy mustard and delicious in salad dressings or with grilled meat.
I am jealous of all of that California produce; it all looks too good!

This is just too much to handle. Your blog makes me get choked up over fruit. There's something wrong with me.

Right there with you on trying to morselize every last pound of summer produce. And re. figs: I roasted them in a molasses-cider vinegar concoction and served them as a salad with arugula, asian pears and chevre. I'm not going to lie, it was to die for.

Just posted the recipe if you want the deets. xo.

I love me some figs. I made preserves over here which I've been putting on everything. Let me know if you ever want to have a fig trade, it could be fun!

P.S. Digging the new site. I re-designed mine a couple of weeks ago and I love the feeling of starting fresh again.
